Join us for a dino-tastic journey through time on this enjoyable educational hike set in a beautiful desert landscape. The trail features unique rock formations, dinosaur fossils, and informative interpretive plaques that highlight the area’s prehistoric past.
Along the way, hikers will enjoy scenic views of Rabbit Valley and the La Sal Mountains. Keep an eye out for pronghorn, which are often spotted in the area. Several covered benches are located throughout the trail, providing comfortable places to rest and take in the surroundings.
This hike is generally considered easy, with only a few short, steep hills, making it an excellent opportunity to explore the natural and ancient history of the region.

Driving directions: From Grand Junction, drive 30 miles west on Interstate 70 to the Rabbit Valley exit (exit 2). Turn right into the site parking lot.
Suggested parking: Dinosaur Hill trail parking lot.
Restrooms and Water: This hiking trail has a bathroom but no water filling stations.
Hike length: This trail is approximately 1.5 miles in length with an elevation gain of 157 ft.
Hiking Recommendations: Please make sure to wear comfortable clothes and shoes for hiking. Bringing a water bottle, bug protection, hiking poles, and sun protection are highly recommended.
