join US on hikes AND EXPLORE THE BEAUTY OF PUBLIC LANDS.
RSVP For Upcoming Hikes
Painted Trails will be pausing our public hikes from November through April. We’ll start back up in early May as spring begins to unfold. We’re excited for the new season ahead and hope to see everyone out on the trails again soon!
What Is Painted Trails?
Grand Junction is a beautiful place full of amazing plants and animals, but sometimes it’s easy to miss the beauty if you don’t know what to look for. That’s why we’re excited to invite you to our Painted Trails Program. A fun, free way to get outside, learn about nature, and connect with others who love the outdoors!
Join us every other Sunday for guided hikes where we’ll explore different trails around Grand Junction. Along the way, you’ll discover how to identify native plants and animals, hear stories about the important roles they play in our ecosystem, and maybe even spot some wildlife.
Whether you’re new to hiking, curious about nature, or just looking to meet friendly people and enjoy a relaxing hike, these hikes are for you! Check out our full list of upcoming trails and dates, then come out and experience the beauty and biodiversity of our local public lands with us.
Helpful Tips
How to Prepare
We encourage everyone to come prepared with comfortable hiking shoes, a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. Be sure to bring plenty of water. Don’t forget to dress appropriately for the weather! Layered clothing and a jacket may be necessary depending on the conditions. Staying hydrated and weather-ready ensures a safe and enjoyable hike!
Courtesy
We also ask that you refrain from littering or smoking on the trails. Guests of all ages are welcome, but participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Additionally, please keep phone conversations to a minimum during the hike to respect the experience of your fellow hikers.
Parking
Free parking is available at all locations; however, spaces may be limited. We recommend planning ahead and arriving early to secure a spot. Each hike will have a designated meeting point for the group to gather before starting.
Pet Policy
We understand that dogs can be wonderful hiking companions, however, we’ve made the decision to keep our hikes pet-free. This allows everyone to fully enjoy the natural surroundings, stay present, and avoid potential distractions or disruptions on the trail.
That said, legitimate service animals, as defined by the ADA, are always welcome. These animals are trained to perform specific tasks for individuals with disabilities and are not considered pets.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation. By leaving furry friends at home, you’re helping us create a safe, comfortable, and inclusive environment for every hiker. Thank you!
